Church Closures

In light of the Government guidance announced by the Prime Minister on Monday evening regarding non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have issued advice that all churches are to close with immediate effect to help halt the spread of Coronavirus.

The Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of England have urged everyone to follow the instructions given by the Prime Minister to stay in their homes in a national effort to limit the transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

It means all Church of England churches will close with immediate effect in line with the Government’s instructions. There will also be no weddings or baptisms, but funerals
can still go ahead within strict limits with only the closest family in attendance and essential physical distancing measures in place.

With particular regard to Edenfield, St Andrew’s, St Paul’s, and St Philip’s Churches this means that:

  • The churches will no longer be open for private prayer on Sunday mornings;
  • There will be no Sunday services until further notice;
  • No other services during the week will take place,

“Let us continue to pray, to love, to care for the vulnerable, and build our communities, even while separated.”
